Springsource bought over

I used to think how hard Springsource is trying to sell its subscriptions to customers when the software is so robust.

They went on a buying spree and bought companies like Hyperic (not exactly related to what they do).

Now, looks like the VC’s managed to get their pound of flesh…

Springsource has been acquired by VMWare!!!

Just when the App-server space was narrowed down to 2 vendors (IBM and Oracle-BEA-SUN) and Spring was expected to take a big role, the acquisition has happened.

Questions, Questions…just a few of them below:

  • Will Spring survive going forward, as an excellent alternative to the monopolies that exist in this space?
  • Was Rod Johnson feeling the pressure to get more RoI on the Sprinsource suite of products?
  • Where does all this leave the company’s Opensource vision?
